We are a friendly Anglican church with a real community spirit – everyone is welcome to join us!
Worship and Regular Services
Our worship is primarily Communion based, traditional yet forward-moving, and liturgical in style. Each Sunday our services take place at 11am.
- Holy Communion – normally, every first and third Sundays .
- Morning Prayer – every second and fourth Sundays.
- Baptisms take place on the second Sunday in the month after the morning service. These are by arrangement (we ask couples to come to a Sunday Service to begin the booking process).
- Weddings are by arrangement
There is a large car-park behind the church.
Groups and Courses
Alpha Courses: Alpha Courses are for those seeking to know more about the Christian Faith, or wishing to deepen their Christian faith. These are run annually during the autumn. The course is usually run with other local churches – our next one is in April, 2017, and will last for 10 weeks (missing half term) and finishing in July. Exact dates will be published when finalised.
Ignite Group: We have regular small group meetings where we meet to study the Bible and look at different aspects of our life as Christians. The group meets fortnightly on Thursday evenings.
Lent Study Group
In 2017 the Lent Study Group will run on Thursday evenings from 2nd March to 6th April.
Knit and Natter: This group meets weekly on Thursday afternoons and knits items for worthwhile causes including Operation Christmas Child shoe-boxes, premature babies and babies born into poverty in the Third World. Members also knit their own items in between times!
St Chad’s Group: The St Chad’s Group meets for individual spiritual development through discussion, Bible study and visits to other churches. The group has also arranged short services in the community and undertaken prayer walks in our local streets. Members run three Sing-along at Tea-time sessions to celebrate the main events in the Christian calendar as well as the annual Pensioners’ Party and the Candlemass Service.
Over 50s Coffee Mornings
The Over 50s Group meets on Wednesday mornings from 10 am to 12 noon. Over tea and coffee and cake they chat, do crafts or play card or board games.
The church is open to visitors for private Bible study, prayer or for just a look around every Saturday from 10 am to 12 noon from March to October. Tea or coffee with toast are offered and there is someone on hand to pray with visitors if this is wanted.
Children at St Leonard’s
St Leonard’s has a good relationship with the local primary schools, Old Park School and Ladygrove, leading assemblies and holding services for them at various times. An interdenominational group has started to give Open the Book sessions in local schools and has plans to extend this to others when the number of members increases.
Sunday Club: There has been a Sunday Club for youngsters which took place upstairs during our Communion Services. The children came down and joined us in time for Communion, when they were welcome to come up to the altar for a blessing. The club has been suspended because there are no children regularly attending church of late but can be restarted when needed.
Children’s Corner: There is a Children’s Corner with toys, drawing materials and books downstairs in the church for use by younger children during the service.
Jolly Tots of Malinslee: We have a Parents and Toddlers Group, called Jolly Tots of Malinslee, that meets every Tuesday (during school times) from 9.00am until 11.00 am. They have moved downstairs, where there is play equipment and a special area is created for them.
Holiday Clubs: We run a popular holiday club in the mornings during the first week of the summer holidays. We also have a club one morning near Easter and hope to continue a Hallelujah children’s party on Halloween. All these include crafts, games and songs.
Christmas and Easter Experiences
The Christmas Experience was started in 2016 where children from Old Park Primary School came to a morning session to learn of the Christmas Story by visiting a series of stations in the church where the Story was unfolded to them. A similar experience is planned for Easter.
Church Events: Our building is used for regular Spring, Summer and Christmas Fairs, Harvest Supper and Pensioners’ Party. It can also be let to other organisations: in the past we have hosted local college courses, an aerobics group, a youth group, Dawley Musical Theatre and a Zumba group. This year our Spring Fair will be on 22nd April, our Summer Fair is scheduled for 24th June and the Christmas Fair for 25th November, 2017.
The pages on this website will give more information about many of these groups… or do contact us to learn more.
As well as this web site, we have a Facebook page open to everyone. Just go to Facebook and enter “St Leonard’s Church, Malinslee.”
