We’ve been wanting to do this for awhile, but now each Saturday morning, St Leonards is open from 10-1pm. Pop in, for a visit, to pray, for a cup of coffee!

Pyramid Rock

Hey!

St Leonard’s Summer Holiday Club – Pyramid Rock – begins tomorrow, Monday 25th. It will run from 10-12noon each day. It is for 5-11 year olds.

The theme this year is all about pyramids, egyptians, sand, and Joseph. We will be having fun with great craft activities, games, action songs, and learning about the hero Joseph from the Bible.

It will be a great time. We have loads of children booked and we’re looking forward to a super week!

Joint Service

This Sunday – 30th January – we are having a united service with St John’s Lawley. Usually we have a joint service together three or four times a year.

This Sunday we are meeting together at St John’s Lawley. The service will be at its usual time of 1030am. The speaker is Revd Philip Swan, who is the Lichfield Diocese World Mission Officer.

Next Sunday services at St Leonard’s will return to their normal time of 11am… Sorry for any inconvenience…

Our next united service is far off – Sunday 30th October in fact, a united service which will be here at St Leonard’s. BUT on Sunday 12th June, at 10am, all the Anglican and Methodist churches in Central Telford are having a joint service celebrating 25 years of churches working together in Telford. That service will held at Dawley Christian Centre and will be part of a wonderful day of celebrations…

Christmas…

Well Christmas is approaching – that is what the shops keep reminding us, and we are hearing what dramatic events will be happening in our favourite soaps over Christmas time! And now there are websites asking whether there will be snow on Christmas Day…

At St Leonard’s we have a full and busy program over the coming weeks as we approach Christmas – this exciting and important time for everyone, as we remember the birth of Jesus Christ, in Bethlehem in the Middle East.

We have a page dedicated to our services but a few things to draw to your attention!

* Our Christmas Fair is on Saturday 27th November from 2-4pm – a chance to get an early Christmas bargain for a stocking filler or a little thank you for a loved one. Do come early as normally people arrive early!

* Our Candlelit Carol and Readings Service on Sunday 19th, at 4pm.

* Family Crib Service at 4pm

*Midnight Communion – 1130pm on Christmas Eve

* 9am – Communion – 9am.

We will be having a service on Boxing Day at our usual time of 11am..

Alpha Course – another clip to think about…

Our Alpha Course begins on Wednesday 6th October. It will be run jointly with another church – St John’s Lawley and we will be using their premises, having the course in the church hall. Grilling a Bishop

This coming Sunday we are having a BBQ, despite the rollercoaster weather and the late nights coming in – we are this Sunday doing ‘grill a bishop’.

On Sunday we are having a joint service with St John’s Lawley. It will be a service held in Lawley church (on Dawley Road, Lawley, TF4 2PD), at 1030am. Bishop Mark Rylands, the Church of England Bishop for the Shrewsbury Area, will be leading that worship service and preaching. Afterwards we are having a meal in the St John’s church hall – currently we have 44 or so coming – and at the meal, the Bishop has kindly agreed to us grilling him – IE to ask him any questions we would like to and he will give as honest an answer as he can…

So, no service at Malinslee church this Sunday – but if you are reading this before Sunday, do join us at Lawley church, for 1030 Worship Service and for the meal following.

From next week onwards – Sunday 19th September, our services at St Leonard’s return to their normal pattern and time of 11am…

Summer Holiday Club

Ahoy!
Just to let you know that our Summer Play Scheme is beginning on Monday 16th – this Monday at 10am to 12noon. And there are still places for children to be registered!

You can register a child by bringing them along to the first session your child will attend. Each session costs £1 or £4 for the week, and it is for 5-11 year olds. We do ask that each child is dropped off by a responsible adult – than an older sibling.

What will Christmas be for us?

For some people it is a time they have been looking forward to for a long time. For some teachers, it is the end of a long school term. For children it is presents, off school, and perhaps, if it keeps getting colder, maybe even snow (especially this week ahead in Malinslee!). For others it means facing having to go into the shopping centres and trying to get those last remaining presents or cards. Having tried it a couple of weeks back with a buggie, I can see why some people get their presents and cards all done by mid November!!!

For others, Christmas will be very difficult. There are many who are bereaved and remember their loved ones especially over the next couple of weeks. Those families and friends need our support, even if it is a little card, or a cup of tea or a pop round. For many families, their loved ones are serving with our armed forces around the world, especially in Afghanistan. And there are those individuals and families who find it very hard because of problems in the families, worries over work, or perhaps no work.

Jesus once said, it is more blessed to give than receive. Christmas is an act of giving from God to us, the people of the world. We remember the gifts from the wise men, but Jesus is a gift to us. I guess, when we think about the needs around us, people around us, Jesus’ words – it is more blessed to give than to receive make us think. What will we give this Christmas?
